Course Details
The qualification will provide learners with the knowledge and practical competence required to be able to recognise and treat adults who have become unresponsive and also who may have suffered cardiac arrest. Learners will gain the skills and knowledge to quickly, calmly and confidently provide life-saving treatment. It is suitable for learners who have a responsibility at work or are involved in voluntary or community activities but teaches valuable skills that will benefit everyone in all aspects of their life.
Duration
3-4 Hours classroom based theoretical and practical training.
Syllabus
The course covers a range of topics, including:
- What is first aid?
- Responsibilities
- Action in an emergency
- Primary survey
- Recovery position
- Resuscitation and the safe use of an AED
Assessment and Certification
This qualification is assessed through practical demonstration and oral questioning. Real-life scenarios will be set to test the learner’s skills and knowledge. Successful learners will be awarded an Ofqual or SQA Accreditation regulated qualification. This qualification is valid for 3 years from the date of achievement. The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further 3 years. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.
Age limit
Learners must be at least 14 years old to be awarded the regulated qualification.
